Presenting "Attic and Basement Fires"
Co-Instructor Captain Danny Stratton, City of Camden NJ Fire Dept.
Wednesday 17 October 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
The most dangerous and deadly structure fires occur in basements and attics. With limited access, egress and ventilation options, making the push on these fires can be a punishing task. This class will focus on recognizing the key size-up indicators and the proper strategy and tactics for engine, truck and rescue company operations. Different geographical areas will be discussed, covering the similarities and differences of both urban and suburban areas and top- to bottom-floor fires. Prevention of firefighter entrapment is a key topic, focusing on hidden fire spread in attics and floor-collapse concerns for basement fires, emphasizing the importance of checking the floors above and below.
